Hair transplantation methods

Hair transplantation methods

People have been struggling with hair loss problem for ages, so it’s no wonder that modern medicine could accept it as one thing… a challenge! Not a small one, indeed. However, challenges are precisely what doctors like most. The first hair transplant references date back to antique times. The revolution concerning the reconstruction of the head hair started only in the 19th century, in the 20th century it reached a level similar to the one we know at present. J. F. Dieffenbech, N. Orentreich and S. T. Hwang, are the names to remember – it is them to whom we owe the possibility of hair transplant.

Drugs for hair loss versus hair transplant

The causes of hair loss may differ – we sometimes have an influence on them (our diet, lots of stress), in other cases hair falls out regardless of our lifestyle (genes, implications of various diseases). No matter what the reason for baldness is, it is extremely important to respond quickly to the problem. The sooner we consult a doctor, the greater the chance is to start an effective pharmacological treatment. As long as the head area subjected to baldness is not considerable, there is always a chance of choosing the appropriate medicine. In many cases, even if it doesn’t restore full hair density, it’s worth starting the fight against hair loss with pharmaceuticals themselves  – the results of this treatment often allow to lower the cost of a possible hair transplant in the future. Surgical hair restoration, which is hair follicle transplant, is the solution allowing to restore thick and healthy-looking hair, even for patients who have already lost most of the head hair. Such a procedure can be performed by means of three methods, one of which is no longer used.

Two methods of hair transplant

At present, hair transplantation is performed by means of FUT and FUE methods. The first one, FUT, is used less and less frequently due to many shortcomings, and is very likely to go down to history soon. The greatest disadvantages of FUT include a linear scar at the back of the head, which usually prevents the patients from having a short hairdo. The most modern current hair transplant procedure is FUE method. Thanks to this innovative solution a patient can undergo a non-invasive and painless procedure, which modern medicine allows to perform within only a few hours. A great advantage of FUE method is an extremely quick recovery lasting only 5-7 days. HairCentre Kierach only performs hair transplants using the most modern method of FUE. Some of you may have encountered on the Internet other surgical methods of hair restoration such as ‘Safer’, ‘Artas’, ‘microFUE’, or ‘Smart FUE’. All of these are based on FUE method, namely extracting single hair follicles. And an eye-catching and ‘revolutionary’ name is just a marketing ploy.

An individual approach to the patient

Despite the great possibilities of fighting the problem of hair loss, we must remember that it is the doctor who decides on the method of the treatment. The patient himself is not able to recognise the cause of hair loss – without proper problem identification it is not possible to select a suitable treatment. In medicine, also in its aesthetic field, an individual approach to the patient is of great importance – what helps one patient may prove harmful and ineffective for the other.
